Why Do I Need to Create an Account?
In order to use the features on this site that allow you to submit information, you will need to have an account. We realize that you may have questions or concerns regarding the information we are requesting, so below is a list of answers to frequently asked questions. If you have more concerns after reading the following information, please email Linda Etter.
What do I need to do?
Create an account so we know who you are.
What do you need to know?
Just the basics—contact information, user ID, password, birthdate
Why do you need to know my birthdate?
- Knowing the life stage you're in helps us make sure you get information that is helpful to you.
- This information guarantees your online account information is secure (so hackers can't access your online giving records or any other personal information).
- Although there is no "inappropriate" content on our site, certain events and classes are age-restricted. The birthdate prevents children from registering for adult events.
What can I do after I create my account?
- Register for events online at any time
- Sign up online for volunteer opportunities
- Gain priority status when you contact us via the web. Your personal ID and message is routed directly to an assigned staff person who recognizes your account. Your message will not sit in a generic mailbox with all other general requests.
- Make secure online contributions and view your history online.
I don't want to be bombarded with church mailings.
We hate being bombarded with spam as well, so we will not do anything to invade your personal space. The purpose of your account is to make it easy for you to do what you need to do online to take your next step. It's not for us to capture your information so we can invade your personal space just adding more noise and clutter to your life.
I'm nervous about sharing my personal information online.
At many sites we would be too. That's why we have made this one completely secure. Here is what you will not get when you create an account:
- spammed, harassed and profiled for marketing purposes
- sold to the highest bidder
- deluged with information you don't want, don't need or didn't ask for
- infilitrated by spyware or asked for money
- instant-messaged by random strangers
- email forwards with cookie recipes, chain letters or angel poems
Will I use my account like other retail accounts?
This account is not a retail account or ecommerce line where you manage your profile, user preferences, shopping cart, wish list, products and services, etc. It's a simple and secure online connection between you and Otterbein. It's like an online ticket that allows you access to interactive parts of the site that aren't available to anonymous surfers. And, since we won't use cookies (install our files on your machine), you account is the only way for us to know for sure it's you when you enter the interactive places on this site.
What else do I need to know?
Once you set up your information the first time, that's it. You wil not have to enter it again. But, for security reasons, you may be asked to verify it. And, to prevent the emails you do receive from Otterbein from going into your bulk or spam folder, add denise@otterbeinchurch.org to your address book.
