Making "excellent music for a most excellent God!"

The choir is the backbone of our music ministry. This is the place I encourage everyone to start who wishes to be involved in music ministry at Otterbein. It is a happy and encouraging place to be. Whether you are a soloist or a group singer, I encourage you to contact me personally, or by phone at 762-7147. You can also email me at daveb@otterbeinchurch.org to let me know of your desire. Together, we can make "excellent music for a most excellent God!"

Our Purpose

  • to provide quality music that will insire individuals to worship God
  • to provide a place of spiritual growth and fellowship for choir members
  • to present the Gospel to the community and surrounding areas through quality musical productions

Our Priority

  • that Jesus Christ be honored through all we sing, say and do
  • that our message remain clear and our motives pure
  • that we care and pray for one another
  • that we live lives that reflect our commitment to Christ

Our Policy

"Excellent music for a most excellent God." We desire to achieve this goal without losing sight that God is most honored with the attitude of the heart, not the perfection of the notes.

Our Prayer

  • that as we lift up the name of Jesus, He will draw people to Himself
  • that God would be please with our attitudes and actions

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can join the Choir?
The choir is open to 9th-graders through adults. Experience is not a requirement. We are happy to do “on-the-job” training.

How do I join the choir?
To join, simply see the director, Dave Besecker. He will set up an informal meeting with you to get acquainted and determine your voice placement.

Sounds like an audition to me.
No, not really. The voice placement is to determine what part you will sing (soprano, alto, tenor or bass). It allows the director a chance to get to know the prospective member. If the singer cannot match pitch, he/she would have to realize that choir is not the appropriate ministry for them. Even experienced singers are asked to go through the voice placement.

What are the requirements to be in the choir?
One must be a believer and follower of Jesus Christ. One must be able to attend rehearsals and worship services on a regular basis. One must be willing to support and encourage other members. One must be willing to cooperate with the director and larger group.

When are rehearsals?
Rehearsals are held each Wednesday evening, 7–8:30 p.m. in the sanctuary.

Who directs the choir?
The choir is directed by Dave Besecker, Director of Music and Worship. Dave is a full-time staff member at Otterbein and has been serving in this capacity for more than 18 years.

What kind of music do you sing?
A better question would be, “What kind of music do you not sing?” We like to do all styles of music at Otterbein. The majority of our music could be classified as adult contemporary and inspirational. However, we like music that ranges from Bach to Brooklyn Tabernacle.
