Local2Global - Short-Term Trips
Short-Term Trips at Otterbein are an important part of being obedient to God. The Bible says, “go and make disciples.” So we go! Local2Global ministries believes that it is God’s people, the Church, who “send” those who will go out into all the world. We use a process of “Support Discovery.” Support discovery is making the church aware of an opportunity to send its own on a mission for God. Financial and prayer support is realized as the body of Christ “listens” to God’s leading and provides the finances and prayer so that Otterbein Church can successfully fulfill the great commission.
Each opportunity that OC Local2Global provides will have an information table in the lobby several weeks before the event. You can always call or email Pastor Dirk for more information, 717.762.7147.
This will be the third of numerous trips to Honduras. OC has a team of people committed to a two to three year initiative. Our goal is to find a village in the Opalaca Mountain of Honduras that has little or no christian witness. On the first trip, we accomplished this goal. The name of the village is Rosario. We’ll be giving our time and resources to a village of about 200 hundred people who have little or no chance of hearing about Jesus. We found two Christians there and they have invited us back. On the second trip, our goal was to build relationships with people, talk with village leaders and to be invited back. This was accomplished. Now, the third trip will be to execute a strategy that has two approaches. One, we will be providing humanitarian assistance to the village in the form of up grades to the school, providing food for the children in lean times of the year, providing school supplies, providing medical care and so on. Our prayer is that this humanitarian relief will help to retain the favor of the village leaders. The second approach will be to work with the two young people who seem to be spiritually open and hungry to know more. We will be sending bible studies to them, asking Pastor Emmanuel and Pastor Barnardo (two Honduran pastors who live about three hour walk away) to provide some bible studies. Although the strategy is fluid and we are following the expert advice of Cassey Bauer (OC’s man on the ground) and Jose Martinez who is helping and mentoring Cassey. As of this date, we will work through and with Maximino and Dawnia (the spiritually open young people) to establish the first biblical church the village has ever had. Please pray for this initiative and those who are part of the mission.
Other trips being planned for the fall. Several weeks before we launch a missions trip, we’ll announce to the church. Keep you eyes open in the buletin for up coming opportunities.
